First and most importantly thanks you for being a valued fan of My Sports Picks. NBA and NCAABB is now available! For the same price ($4.99) we will track all your bets and money management based on your personal picks. Each day email us your picks ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) and we will update the scores and calculate the profits for you. We are calling this a “White Glove” service that we feel will be a win win situation. Since our resources are limited (see bellows’ 10/5 news for details) we feel this is a great way for you to be able to track all your bets all season without having us enter 100 scores and odds by hand each day. The odds section will be blank so you can add the line you got the bet at. If you are not sure how just check the video section here on our site. When we update the score and complete the game all your stats will be recorded. You can either use the email feature in the app to send us your picks or if you rather us not see your dollar amounts you can just email us your picks. I would think using the email option in the app would be the easiest for you. During the NCAABB tournament we will update every game automatically for you. Dear Valued Fans,

Over the past 6 months we have been struggling with a data decision that we wish we did not have to make. As of October 5, 2011 our data vendor raised the prices of the live data to a point that it is not feasible to keep them on as our provider. We have looked into many different options to keep live or even semi live data in the app but development and data costs are too prohibitive.  That being said we are still researching methods to deliver scores close to real time.   We have implemented a back end interface that will let us update scores, lines and odds, on a periodic basis (but not real time).  We will do our best to have these updated as timely as possible.

Even with delayed data we still feel we have an awesome app that lets you track all your bets in a very unique and clean manner.  The apps functionality has not and will not change; you can still change the lines, odds, add parlays, manage all your money and email your picks to “friends”. We have a full set of videos on our site showing you how you can adjust the lines, odds, over under numbers etc.

Also impacting a team’s scoring is how ownership chooses to build a team to perform with the greatest advantage vis-a-vis the dimensions of their home park. In this regard, there are classic examples which we all know.  Petco Park in San Diego is a traditionally a low scoring venue.  This year’s games have averaged just 6.2 RPG with a result of 10-16-3 to the UNDER.  It is clear this park has an impact on the Padres because their games averaged 8.4 runs on the road.  An opposite example might be the Colorado Rockies who are built for the high scoring, hitter friendly park at mile high altitude.  Their home games are averaging 10.5 RPG with a result of 14-10-2 to the OVER.  Again, this is confirmed by the fact that on the road Rockies games average just 7.8 RPG.

We gain more benefit from looking at less public examples.  By tracking each team’s results home and road comparing it to the averages and doing the same with each opponent they play, it becomes quickly obvious where the inherent ballpark edges may lie.  When used in conjunction with 2 teams current form and pitcher data, along with key OVER/UNDER indicators provided by the line maker, you can easily see why OVER/UNDER handicapping in MLB can be among the best propositions in all of sports.  To confirm this fact, go to any reliable sports book and ask for the betting limits on MLB OVER/UNDERS compared to that of an NFL game.  You will quickly see which they fear more.

While random variance and the fact baseball is a game of inches impact MLB OVER/UNDERS just as sides, the edges gained by doing your homework in the areas above can result in great profit throughout the season.

NBA Playoffs When the Hunter becomes the Hunted!

For those of you who did not heretofore believe in the situational concepts of Letdowns and Bouncebacks, the NBA put it right in your face last night. Whether you believe it was Miami arrogance or the spirited resolve of the Mavs, the fact is that Miami suffered an inevitable 4th quarter Letdown in Game #2 of the NBA Playoffs.

No one can deny that Miami had played incredible basketball in their recent 4th quarter efforts against Chicago and Dallas. In the NBA Playoffs, they had been holding opponents to just 17 PPG in the 4th quarter of their recent hot streaks. They made numerous circus shots, mostly by Wade and James, and intensified their defensive presence. The key to that success was that in most every instance they were trailing in the game. To simplify it, they have a psychological makeup of being the “Hunter” rather than the “Hunted”.

Last night, Miami was home leading 1-0 in the Series. They played a lethargic 1st half defensively. With 3 minutes remaining, they had allowed 51 points. Yet just as they had done so many times in the recent past, they turned on the faucet to score the last 9 points of the half and tie the game at 51. It was more of the same in the 2nd half. With 6 minutes remaining in the game, they held a comfortable 88-73 lead. This means that they had outscored the Mavs by 24 points in the last 21 minutes. Clearly they felt the inevitable over confidence that results when any team dominates another and feels comfortable they have won the game.

At this point, they become the “Hunted” rather than the “Hunter” and fall into psychological Letdown mode. The rest, as they say, is history with the Mavs outscoring the Heat 22-5 to end the game and steal a 2 point victory to even the Series at 1-1.

If you have followed my history of handicapping the NBA Playoffs since 1979, you may have an idea of who the winner will be on Sunday.

Stop the presses! Tweet your friends! Let the world know that My Sports Picks Version 1.3 is now in Apples hands! I know you're excited, but don't you want to know what you will get in Version 1.3? Here you go:

* Email Functionality Works: My Sports Picks gives you the opportunity to email your friends all your current and scheduled games. Before, the app would crash every time you pressed the Email Picks button. That bug is a thing of the past.

* The Buy Button on Parlays/teasers is fixed: We had a wee bit of a problem with buying parlays/teasers, where after you bought this great product, the buy button didn't go away. As a result, some of our customers accidentally bought Parlays/Teasers more than once. We know it's great, but you only need to buy Parlays/Teasers once for three months of use across all sports. Nice!

* NCAA Basketball schedule by conference: No need to scroll through every college basketball game on a given night. My Sports Picks lets you make your picks by conference, which is really convenient especially at the beginning of the season.
